Medicare FAQs

Helpful answers to the questions we hear the most!

    • Part A: Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, and some home health services.

    • Part B: Covers outpatient care, doctor’s services, preventive services, and certain medical supplies.

    • Part C (Medicare Advantage): An all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare, provided by private insurers. It includes coverage for Part A, Part B, and usually Part D, with additional benefits like vision and dental.

    • Part D: Provides prescription drug coverage through private insurance companies.

  • Original Medicare includes only Part A and Part B. Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) are offered by private insurers and provide the same coverage as Original Medicare, but may also include extra benefits such as dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.

  • You can apply for Medicare three months before your 65th birthday through the Social Security Administration. You can apply online at www.ssa.gov, over the phone, or in person at your local Social Security office.

  • Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover dental, vision, or hearing services. However, many Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) offer these benefits as part of their coverage.
